Brief Introduction of Computer Printer

Printer is a peripheral used to produce or print hard copy of documents (text or illustrations) stored in an electronic form or soft copy to paper or transparencies.

It is one of the most essential computer peripherals because it helps users to have a hard copy of any documents they want to have.

A printer is connected to a computer through a printer cable (LPT1) or USB cable.  There are also network computers that have built in network interfaces to enable printing services for network users.

Modern network printers have the all-in-one capability to scan, print, convert to .PDF documents, photocopy, fax and email documents to users connected on the network. Read the rest of this entry →

Brief Introduction of Motherboard

Motherboard is one of the main components of a computer and made of the printed circuit board (PCB).

The motherboard is also known as mainboard, system board, logic board or sometimes, shortened as “mobo”.

It serves as the backbone of a system because it provides all the electrical connections by which other components of the system communicate.

Aside from that, it hosts the central processing unit (CPU), and other devices. Read the rest of this entry →

Brief Introduction of Computer Memory

Computer memory is a very essential part of a computer system.  It is commonly referred to as RAM (Random Access Memory).

When a user opens an application or program and any files opened on that application, they are loaded into the RAM.

But once these files are saved and closed, the files are written into the specified storage device.  The files and the application are then purged from the RAM.

RAM is the temporary or volatile storage area utilized by the CPU (Central Processing Unit).  With RAM, you can both read and write data.

SIMM and DIMM are the two commonly types of computer memory.

Single In-line memory module (SIMM) is dedicated to store memory chips while Dual In-line Memory Module (DIMM) is used to hold memory chips.

DIMM has a 64-bit upgrade path because of the Pentium processor requirements.  With this, DIMMs can be installed one at a time unlike SIMM.

DIMM provides twice as much data as a single SIMM.  Command address and control signals are buffered on the DIMM.

To determine the type of memory that fits your computer is to verify first the requirements of your computer system’s motherboard.

If your motherboard supports DDR 400/333/366, then you can choose the memory speed and capacity you prefer.

1 Gigabyte is the recommended computer memory capacity.  It would be excellent if you can install 2GB or greater.

Higher memory capacity can help increase the speed in loading and opening the computer and applications installed.

Technology of Processor - Single Core and Dual Core

As we all know, the processor (CPU or Central Processing Unit) is the brain of the computer and this is where all the calculations take place.

The technology of processor comprises mainly of the differences between single core and dual core processors.

Single core processor has only one chip that processes all the instructions and calculations.  If a single core processor is in a multi-tasking situation, the processor switches back and forth to process each set of instructions or programs.  With this, the processor resources are all consumed and its performance suffers.

Dual core processor is two separate computer chips combined in one single chip.  Each core chip handles data strings simultaneously to improve efficiency. Read the rest of this entry →

How to Save Attachment from Yahoo! Mail to Your Computer?

Saving attachment data like pictures, word-processing documents, installers, and programs sent to you as an attachment in your Yahoo! Mail is easy.

Once you received an email with attachment, you can easily download the file attached.

Clicking the file attachment you’d like to download will enable the virus scanning first.  Yahoo! Mail uses the security scanner of Norton Antivirus to verify if the attachments you are downloading are virus-free.

If no threats found on the file attachment, Yahoo! Mail will let you download the file.

You can save the file to any location on your specified drive.  After saving the file, you can now open and accessed the file.  If you click OPEN on the dialog box, the file is not saved on your specified location.

Instead, it is saved on the temporary internet files folder.  You have to manually save the file to store it on the location you want.

How to Password Documents in Your Computer ?

There are times when we type things on our computer and save them on our computers yet we don’t wish people to read whatever it is we have written and saved.

For those who don’t know how to protect what they have written from people who might have access to their computers other than themselves, using a password protected system to keep your documents from being accessed by other people is one thing that should be learned.

Create a Password For Your PC

One of the easiest ways for you to protect your documents from other people who might use your computer from time to time would be to create a password for your User profile.

Your User profile can be locked so that only you can access it and other people can use the PC from another profile that can be for common use. Read the rest of this entry →

How to Send Files to CD or DVD on Windows Vista

You can move or copy your filess on a diskette, on your hard disk, on a USB flash drive or on a CD. Saving your documents on these different devices and different mediums is pretty easy and can be done with very little trouble.

In Windows Vista you can send or copy your files in to a CD without any additional burning software. That’s what I like from windows vista. I can send / move files to CD or DVD from windows explorer.

Things You Will Need

Of course you need windows vista. You need to have a CD or DVD writer or RW installed on your computer. You can’t save documents on a CD unless your computer is capable of writing on a CD.

You also need the CD or DVD that can be written on or saved on for this purpose. The CD you use can be in a writable or rewritable format. Read the rest of this entry →

What Computer Printer Characteristics Should Be Considered

A typical computer should have a printer on hand. There are all sorts of computer printer characteristics to look into first.

The type of printer that is used is one of the characteristics to consider. This includes the printing quality and the speed of the printing. Multiple services, including scanning and faxing, can take place from a printer too.

Here is a look into these computer printer characteristics.

  • The type of the printer
    • The dot matrix printer is still used in some places
    • This is where pixels are printed to form a single image. However, more advanced technologies are being used. For instance, the toner based printer uses static electricity to move the toner into the paper for printing and then heat is applied to keep it on the paper.

    • The inkjet printer is the most common printer on the market today
    • This is where small bits of ink are printed onto a piece of paper. Each bit of ink will be attached via a small electric charge.

    • Laser printers are becoming popular too
    • These can work with toner in that the LEDs in the printer can get the toner to stick to the paper. Inkless printers are currently in development as well.

Dye crystals are used to be heated into the area between the two layers of the paper. This is a process in development though, as the print has been known to fade quickly in trial tests.
