As one continues saving data in his or her computer, the processing speed of the machine tends to be slower. In the same light, when one wants to download big files from the internet, the download speeds of the machine one uses can be slower than is desirable.

It is in such cases that a computer memory upgrade becomes necessary. Before deciding to upgrade the computer memory however, one needs to understand a few basic things.

First, a low-rated random access memory (RAM) is just one of the reasons why the computer could be slow. Other reasons include the presence of unnecessary toolbars, or start-up items.

Secondly, one must rid the computer of malware, spyware, or adware. Usually, they lag the operating speeds of the computer.

Depending on the amount of work that one handles using a computer, one can easily tell when he or she is running short of RAM. In the past, RAM chips used to be low as 128 MB.

Nowadays, and considering the speed requirements necessitated by computer networking and connectivity, most computer manufacturers only release machines that have 512 RAM or more.

Usually, the manufacturers leave enough spaces on the computer’s motherboard to allow for computer memory upgrade.

As such, one can purchase RAM chips compatible with the slots on the motherboard, fix them, and consequently enjoy higher operating speeds on the computer.

Computer users should not however be duped into believing that computer memory upgrade will automatically resolve the speed issues in their machines always. As observed above, there are several other reasons why computer speeds slow down.

When the computer has software related errors for example, no amount of RAM upgrade will enhance its operating speeds. As such, it is advisable that the computer user resolves the software errors first before upgrading the RAM.

People using computer bought five or more years ago, no doubt find the machines much slower compared to new computers released by manufacturers today. With computer memory upgrade however, owners of such machines can increase the speeds to comfortable working levels.

To attain good operating speeds however, computer owners should always avoid opening too many processes or programs at the same time. Additionally, they must use reliable anti-virus software and conduct spyware sweeps, in order to rid the computer of malicious programs.

Since errors in the hard drive can also slow down the computer speeds, one should resolve any outstanding disk fragmentation issues.

But how does computer memory upgrade work? Well, as computer technicians would readily tell, the more RAM a person has in his or her computer, the better.

While 512 megabytes is sufficient for computers operating on the Windows XP platform, people handling larger amounts of work at the same time, or those connecting and downloading files from the internet may require 1 gigabyte RAM or more. Since it is fairly cheap and easy to install RAM chips, there is no reason why one should be tied down to a slow computer, when a RAM upgrade can solve the issue.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could simply open up your brain and add more space so you could remember everything? Oh well, you can’t do that but you can add more memory to your PC or laptop if the need arises.

When you buy a computer, it comes with a certain amount of memory already loaded on. This storage is where you can save files, applications, music, videos, pictures and anything else you’d like. It would be great to have unlimited memory but that is not always the case.

Maybe you have noticed that your computer is running slower than usual. You have used Disk Defragmenter to combine files and get rid of others that you don’t need. A computer that still runs slow may need a memory boost.

You can check the memory capacity on your hard drive. If you go to Start Menu, click on Computer. You’ll see a visual representation of your hard disk drives (C and D). The C drive is what you are looking at. It will show you how much of the total memory is still free, such as “231GB free of 285.”

When you need more memory, it’s not that hard to find. The quickest way is to check with your manufacturer. Most name brand computers have websites where you can find everything you need with a few clicks.

Let’s use Dell for example. On the bottom of a Dell laptop or on the Dell PC tower is your service tag number. With that number, you can access all of the information about the computer that they built for you. Now, you can find out which memory options you have for that model.

Memory comes in different configurations depending on the age of your computer. It doesn’t require an expert, but you will need to pay attention to the instructions carefully to get it right. For a laptop, the memory can be inserted in the underside of the device.

In either case, be sure that the device is turned off and everything is unplugged before beginning. Working on a kitchen table away from carpeted flooring is best to avoid problems with static electricity. Be sure that you are grounded to avoid shock.

Read all instructions before beginning. There are dedicated slots for memory expansion in both devices. Before you purchase a new computer, see if it is more feasible to add memory for better performance.

Computer memory is a very essential part of a computer system. It is commonly referred to as RAM (Random Access Memory).

When a user opens an application or program and any files opened on that application, they are loaded into the RAM.

But once these files are saved and closed, the files are written into the specified storage device. The files and the application are then purged from the RAM.

RAM is the temporary or volatile storage area utilized by the CPU (Central Processing Unit). With RAM, you can both read and write data.

SIMM and DIMM are the two commonly types of computer memory.

Single In-line memory module (SIMM) is dedicated to store memory chips while Dual In-line Memory Module (DIMM) is used to hold memory chips.

DIMM has a 64-bit upgrade path because of the Pentium processor requirements. With this, DIMMs can be installed one at a time unlike SIMM.

DIMM provides twice as much data as a single SIMM. Command address and control signals are buffered on the DIMM.

To determine the type of memory that fits your computer is to verify first the requirements of your computer system’s motherboard.

If your motherboard supports DDR 400/333/366, then you can choose the memory speed and capacity you prefer.

1 Gigabyte is the recommended computer memory capacity. It would be excellent if you can install 2GB or greater.

Higher memory capacity can help increase the speed in loading and opening the computer and applications installed.

Formatted in FAT32, SDHC cards reach a maximum capacity of 32GB and can fulfill the high-capacity demand of the new SDHC devices such as Casio Exilim Z1000/Z600/S600 cameras, Panasonic DMC-L1 camera, and HP printer A/B.

Consumers who have purchased this card are delighted with this inexpensive yet powerful memory card and the fact that it is so versatile.

Most, however, have used this card for their Canon SD1000 digital camera, as well as other cameras that have SDHC compatibility.

As computer technology as surged over the years, more companies are designing peripherals which make it easier and more affordable to work at home, at the office, and elsewhere.

With wireless laptops becoming more popular than desktops, the convenience of not having to remain at a computer desk has brought about a change in computer operations worldwide.

As you know, the amount of memory in a computer is critical to maintaining important files both large and small.

With the advent of memory sticks, we can do away with external hard drives and utilize the SanDisks or Transcend Cards that are available today.

Whether we use these cards for cameras, laptops, desktops, or other peripherals; there is no doubt that more and more products offering a more practical solution to cables and wires affords everyone an opportunity to enjoy electronic products to the max.
