Recently I came across a recording of an interesting program on the TV broadcasted in the UK, which featured some highly qualified techies who explained the usability, quality and difference of other parameters between the CRT and flat-screens (of all types).

If you want a really good monitor get the Apple LCD displays, and recently they just came out with a new model. Moreover you can use them with the PC if you get the ADC to DVI adapter and then get a video card with a DVI plug on it, which can be handy for graphic designers.

With Price of monitors falling, you can now get a 19? anywhere between $159 and $199. I found the best prices for these monitors at tigerdirect.com where the start price was at $159.

While looking for a 19″ LCD monitor, if you are going to use the LCD monitor mostly for Graphic Design work rather than gaming with a budget is around $200-250, it should preferably have a DVI connector because your current CRT monitor may be occupying the VGA port. So the LCD monitor can be a Dual Monitor set-up with a CRT Monitor

A 22? monitor is not a great option usually, because upgrading from a 19? monitor to 22? is not a big difference. Secondly I did not mention that when buying your monitors you have to look at if you want a Widescreen monitor or a standard 4:3 monitor. Most monitors now come as widescreen because of movies and it has also become a trend in the industry, just like it happens with the Flat screen TV’s.

I personally liked four product in recent times; BenQ FP93G, Wise Wing W902DB, Tyris T901DB, and Rosewill R912E.

All of these LCD monitors are affordable, but my interest personally leans towards the BenQ FP93G because its contrast ratio is much higher compare to the rest.

But recently I found out that the Rosewill LCD Monitor has only 16 million display colors (not 16.2 Million) so I guess this monitor is out of the question since most of the graphic designing work will deal with colors.

As a matter of fact, if you are serious about graphic design then frankly nothing beats a CRT…

However, I would suggest you to go with the BenQ if I was to choose from that list, but you may also consider getting a 20″ monitor… There would be a very meager increase in price but you will get much more viewable pixel area (20″ers are 1680×1050 or 1600×1200…first is widescreen, second is normal 4:3…compared to 1280×1024).

I strongly suggest that you also go with a CRT monitor, I have both and I find that my LCD does not render properly. In addition, the monitor auto calibrates itself any time it starts up from scratch.

Looking out for other options for graphic design you need large viewing area and an NEC LCD would be a good option, costing you about $800, which I have heard is on top of the 20 leading ones in the market for color and accuracy.

Specifically, a ViewSonic VX2025WM, which uses the same panel as the $800 NEC is a very handy option, while it costs only about $344, and it has had great reviews about it and its color accuracy once adjusted properly.

Top of the line is the Viewsonic VP930b, but you got to pay for it big time, so keep that in mind!!

If you are willing to shell out extra $$$$, then better check out the Acer AL1951C- awesome monitor!
