Configuring LANs
Configuring the LAN is a real pain. You need to manually allocate the network address to every device on network, & keep the record of them in order to ensure that you did not use same one twice – and if you did, devices will stop working.
But modern LANs with the routers using system named DHCP. The DHCP stands for lively host pattern protocol.
It is the fancy way to say that when device connects to a network, it asks router which of the addresses are free, & then router allocates to it for limited period of time.
This permits you to connect & disconnect things from the network when you want, devoid of having to arrange them.
Even though your laptop is not connected to the network prior to, you can only plug it in, & off you go, with no need to know about how this network is been configured.
Overall, to get modern network up & running, all you need to do is connecting each computer to router using Ethernet cable.
This will be sufficient to get computers to observe each other, however occasionally you require some additional configuration.
In Windows, easiest means to configure the network is to My Network Places on desktop or Start menu, and after that click ‘Set up home or else small office system’.
When you have done that, any of the printers or else other devices, which are linked to any computers, or to router itself, can be mechanically shared.
If you would like to share person folders between the computers, that are also easy to do – only right click in My Computer, opt Properties then Sharing tab, and after that put tick in ‘Share this file on network’ box.
You can connect you LAN very easily to your computer just see that connection is proper.
