Emtec Movie Cube S800

Emtec Movie Cube is a device which could stall all your digital multimedia files, be is digital TV, films, mp3 or internet radio, all of them can be saved and controlled from this device.

The box incorporates digital and analogue TV tuner, a 500GB hard drive for storage and both wireless and wired network connections to share your content around the network.

This device has most of the outputs which cater to various different needs. There are composite and component video output, optical, analogue stereo audio outputs and a lot more.

There is even this older SCART output so it supports even the older generation of TVs. The inputs sockets for this device also cover most of the common input sockets. There are even a few USB sockets available on the top.

Setup is easy, however, to utilize the S800 fully, you would probably need to connect it to an existing network.

An LCD screen in the front enables user to control the box without any other display devices which could be quite useful if you are only looking for music and not TV.

However, most reviews write about the bad quality screen menu when the S800 is connected to a display device, for example the TV or the monitor.

The menus responded slowly. There are options to tune into the digital or analogue broadcast but most users found the quality to be so-so.

The S800 doesn’t scan your storage and add it to the library. Users have to do manually select the folder and find the file so that they could copy them to the S800 internal storage.

The main downside of this device would be its poor format support. Formats like FLAC and Xvid failed to play on this device.

The internet radio is quick and easy to set up. Overall, this is a well made product with a few down sides.
