G2 Android Phone to be released soon

The World Wide Web is just wonderful isn’t it? With it, information is able to travel fast and wide.

This statement proves to be true when some photos alleged to be depicting HTC’s yet-to-be-launched 2009 products.

Internet users have immediately lap up the news and give some creative inputs of their own – one of the most popular rumours surrounding the photos is that one of the phones depicted are going to be run on Google’s mobile operating system (OS) – Android.

If the rumour is true, we have strong reasons to believe that the phone, originally named HTC Sapphire will be marketed in the US as the T-Mobile G2.

In truth, no new Android version has been announced yet but judging from the features of the Sapphire, any software that it runs would definitely need to have support for an onscreen virtual keyboard.

We deduce this from the fact that the device evident lack of a physical keyboard. Apart from that, the Sapphire does have similar design and trackball as the G1.

Other consumers who apparently have much better visual acuity than us point out that there is a ‘myFaves’ button as well as ‘TMO’ and ’2.0′ imprintings on the Sapphire. TMO is said to be the codename for T-Mobile.

The story is made more interesting when the alleged date of the T-Mobile G2 launch is predicted to fall on 26 January 2009.

We wonder how exactly such news leak out of the T-Mobile & HTC partnerships. With many major phone manufacturers such as Motorola, Toshiba, Asus and Sony-Ericsson expected to roll out their own Android phones this year.

We suspect the source of this ‘leak’ may come from its own manufacturer to create an early buzz and dominate the market with totally new Android features.

Let’s wait and see if the leak and the predictions come true. Wait, I just come up with a prediction of my own – Apple will react to the threat posed by Android phones by releasing a newer and better iPhone.
