MobilePre USB – USB Bus-Powered Preamp and Audio Interface
Recordings and photography takes people to places. And having the correct equipment is a must for professionals. Now the latest offering from the M-Audio is pretty interesting.
M-Audio’s MobilePre USB is a preamp. It comes with a built-in audio interface which has been designed for laptop recording. So now you can do field recording and sampling expeditions. It has its own pro’s and con’s.
It is completely bus-powered preamps available. It has a total of three kinds of audio inputs and outputs which provides maximum flexibility for any application.
It has two on-board microphone/instrument preamps and high-impedance instrument inputs ideal for connecting guitars and basses.
It has zero-latency direct monitoring. This provides you with a streamlined professional recording experience.
This may score over its competitors in many ways. For one, it doesn’t need a power cable. You can plug in your guitars or bass to it.
And the most attractive feature would be the Ableton Live Lite music production software bundled along with it. So you can start rocking as soon as you are done with the recording.
But coming to its drawbacks, it doesn’t have a MIDI option. The preamp, though it’s supposedly 48v phantom power, is quite weak. And if you are singing quietly you have to turn it way up or turn it way down if you are singing loudly.
Leaving the basic cons aside, we could still see a lot of positive feedbacks from many takers of this gadget. Few like it output quality, its value for money and its ease of use. But one thing every one agrees to – this is not a SEXY looking gadget and not for those who want to show off.
For the price range of 110$ to 150$, this probably is the best gadgets in the range. You surely would not be disappointed with the sound quality. But do forget MIDI and SEXY appeal from this gadget.
