For most people, the large amount of storage space they get on today’s computers is enough for whatever they can pile onto it.
However, there are some people that need more space. Instead of buying yet another computer, you can buy external hard drives that can store what you need without adding too much to what you have in your home.
These can be downright small, and can even be portable when you do not want to lug your computer when going somewhere. If you need more space, this is the way to go.
Those that store a lot of music on their computers find that they soon run out of space. If you write your own music, you are going to need tons of extra space.
You can buy almost as must memory as you already have on your computer for around a hundred dollars, give or take.
This means that you can have double the space for far less than you would if you were to buy a more powerful computer or if you had to buy a second one just for your music needs. Music tracks take up a lot of space so give yourself a break and get what you need. Read the rest of this entry →
The problem with consumer technology is that no one really wants to crack the manual. Those that have tried it can testify that they aren’t any the better-off for the experience usually, because manuals can be often badly written.
The upshot of all of this just happens to be that even with people who have spent a lifetime with consumer technology, there can be real holes in their understanding.
What we know about the ins and outs of using everyday technology we usually just pick up along the way. There is no one place that we go to, usually.
What makes things really difficult usually is that there are always multiple ways in which to achieve anything. We usually learn the hard way to do something and think that it’s the only way – unaware that there’s a far easier shortcut available that some people know of.
It would save people so much time and heartache if they knew these secret technology tips. And that’s what the following paragraphs are about.
Computers, be they of the Mac persuasion or the Windows kind, are well-known for their ability to act up. When this happens, both experts and novices usually benefit from an ability to share what they see on their screens with other people who might be able to help. Read the rest of this entry →
What is it that really takes entertainment technology forward – VCRs, DVDs, cable, 3D, Internet – what is the kind of consumer demand that really fuels the need for change and leaps forward in technological innovation?
No, it isn’t the soaring human spirit that does it. It’s porn, pure and simple. If it weren’t for powerful demand for accessible porn, none of these entertainment media devices would ever have made it to the mainstream, media experts claim.
As wonderful as all of that might be for spinoff benefits, as a parent, you certainly do experience a degree of anxiety over keeping your child away from porn.
It happens to be more difficult today than ever before now that it’s accessible on Internet connected gaming consoles and any smartphone.
You’ve learned how to block websites like that with child monitoring software on the computer. What do you do with all these new devices that allow access? How to block websites on those? Read the rest of this entry →
For as long as there have been humans, there have been disabilities caused by a loss or a lack of one of the senses. Blindness and deafness have both been problems that could not be overcome, but that could be eased in some ways by using eye glasses or hearing aids-but still people were left at a disadvantage when compared to normally hearing, or normally sighted people.
Bionic implants were originally the stuff of science fiction. When first we heard of them, they were devices out of the imagination that were used to make humans faster or stronger, or to save the lives of people who otherwise would have died.
Implants today consist of mechanical or computerized devices that are surgically added to the human body. They must remain in place in order to work, and may require an external power source, and include such things as the internally implanted pacemaker.
The first of the senses to be partially restored by technology was hearing. Initially hearing aids were used to increase the volume at which a person heard. This allowed a person who had a hearing impairment but who wasn’t completely deaf, to sometimes understand the sounds around them. Read the rest of this entry →
Information is all around us. From our interactive television sets, to the gaming systems that can also access the internet, to our home computers that can find answers to almost anything within a few seconds, it sometimes seems that books have become redundant. Is there a need for them still, for the purposes of study?
Textbooks are expensive, to the point that the receipt of the book list at the start of term is often a scary prospect for students. And yet to do well with your studies you have no choice but to buy the books that your professors instruct you to.
It may be tempting to try and avoid the costs by researching your subjects online. The problem is that information found online is not always accurate. Read the rest of this entry →
Our access to information has never been as convenient. In ancient times, only young men were allowed to go to school and learn about philosophers and literature.
When the ultra-conservative Middle Ages came along, knowledge was left in the hands of the religious, and wouldn’t see a renewal until the Renaissance.
As the centuries passed, people were granted greater access to information, until our modern day scholars decided to make things easier for everyone.
From libraries stocking books in order, we moved to databases that stored information in a way that it could be stored, searched through, and retrieved. Read the rest of this entry →
Did you know that the typical photo printed in a print lab only lasts around 50 years? According the Epson, photos printed with the Epson Picture Mate Photolab & Printer last much longer – 4 times longer to be exact.
I think what they mean is that photos won’t begin to fade for 200 years (4 times longer) than photos created in a print lab. I don’t know that much about printing, but I don’t believe that photos created in a print lab will fall apart the second they hit 50 years old.
I do believe that photos printed with the Epson Picture Mate Photolab & Printer last longer. It uses advanced MicroPiezo technology developed by Epson to help your photos last longer and look their best. This technology also improves the quality of the photos printed.
With the Epson Picture Mate you can print from digital camera, USB flash drive, memory card, or by bluetooth for mobile phones and other devices.
Other than the whole last 200 years thing, another cool feature of the Picture Mate is it’s large easy to see LCD screen measuring a generous 3.6 inches.
Being able to see exactly what you’re printing before you hit print is a great benefit to avoid wasting photo paper. You can also easily navigate around using that same screen, so it should be suitable for anyone ranging from a beginner to an expert.
The printer can run as a standalone machine or with your computer. It includes software for Windows (many versions, including Windows XP and Windows Vista) and Mac OS X. Linux users could also probably find a way to run the software (maybe with WINE) or find an alternative.
It was difficult to find things about this photo printer that I didn’t like. However, it only prints 4×6 photos. If this is all that you are looking for, this printer is pretty much perfect, but if you’d like to print something larger than you may need to go for a full size all in one style printer.
The Photo Mate prints at a high quality (5760×1440 dpi). Epson guarantees that you get at least 150 photos from every cartridge, making it a little more budget friendly than one might expect.
If you don’t, they will pro-rate the price of the cartridge and refund you a fraction of the price. I don’t know anyone who has taken them up on this deal, but it seems that this will protect you from purchasing a bad cartridge and losing money.
You probably won’t end up asking for a refund if you print 148 photos, but if it’s down around 100 it would be worth your time.
Many people sell their used computers for a variety of reasons. Some sell their used computer instead of throwing them as a trash get some money from them, while others sell their used computers to buy new computers with the latest features and technology.
Not only individuals sell their used computers, but also large numbers of organizations or firms sell their used computers.
They do so because the computer systems may require maintenance and repairs, after some time due to the decrease in performance seen in the computers after some years.
Instead of spending more money on the maintenance and repairs they sell and gain money, as there is a great demand for used computers. Read the rest of this entry →
When you think trash, you surely don’t think about your old, trusty personal computer. But that’s exactly what will become of it when you make the inevitable move toward your next laptop or desktop.
And, yes, buying a new computer is inevitable, considering the pace at which computer technology zips along. Just think—about a handful of years ago, a fast microprocessor for a laptop was at 233 MHz. Now you’re looking at about at least 2 GHz! That’s Giga, with a G.
So eventually, you will want a computer that can handle the latest software, the latest games, and the latest interactive Web sites, and then you’ll have to throw away your old computer, right? Wrong.
Try selling your used computer instead. Throwing out your computer is one of the worst things you can do. For one, your computer may be useful for someone out there, even if just for scraps. Read the rest of this entry →
If you are looking for a camera that is powerful, but compact, you should take a look at the Canon Powershot SD 11001S. This is a casual camera (not designed for professional photographers), but it is still very powerful.
It takes photos at 8 Mega Pixels, which is the current “big” for your average camera. 10 megapixel cameras are also cropping up, but of course are going to cost more. It is small and compact, and very easy to use.
