Configuring LANs

Configuring the LAN is a real pain. You need to manually allocate the network address to every device on network, & keep the record of them in order to ensure that you did not use same one twice – and if you did, devices will stop working.

But modern LANs with the routers using system named DHCP. The DHCP stands for lively host pattern protocol.

It is the fancy way to say that when device connects to a network, it asks router which of the addresses are free, & then router allocates to it for limited period of time.

This permits you to connect & disconnect things from the network when you want, devoid of having to arrange them. Read the rest of this entry →
