The intention of this information is to help keep your personal computer operating at its highest speed by performing some standard clean-ups. One  that influences your internet speed is usually the cable modem. The 1st step is having the best cable modem (check here) that is running on a DOCSIS 3.0 or else, all we cover right here may not matter. Let’s dig into it.

1. Defragmenting:

What’s defragmenting? It is similar to combing a comb through hair or arranging a person’s paper filing cabinet. This is organizing your pc documents. Get started by going to the ‘start menu’ next click on ‘programs.’ And then, go to ‘Microsoft system tools’. Should you have Windows 7, simply just type ‘defragment’ in the start menu search box and it’ll show up below programs. As soon as the program starts, just simply defragment your entire disk drive. I encourage people defragment every month.

2. Disk Cleanup:

What is disk cleanup? This clears away information and data files on your personal computer that are doing nothing but using up room. This is located inside of the ‘start menu’ then simply look under ‘programs’. Next go to ‘Microsoft system tools.’ In the event you’ve got Windows 7, just simply type ‘disk cleanup’ into the start menu search box and it will show up beneath programs. And once it finishes the computing, just click all of the boxes you would like cleaned up (I check every one of them).

And then, hit ‘ok’. Without possibly even knowing, an individual might have a single gigabyte or even more of wasted disk space on your hard drive resulting in it to run at a decreased speed (that’s approximately two thousand photographs worth of wasted storage space!) I advise you do a disk cleanup every month.

3. Clear  Cache, History, and Cookies:

Ever wondered how a website knows if you have visited in the past? Or how a site recalled your passwords as well as other information that is personal? Odds are you already have one-hundred or thousands of ‘cookies’ associated with the computer and also internet. And so, start internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome and lets do a bit of cleaning. Using Internet Explorer you just go to ‘tools’ after that ‘internet options.’ Below ‘Browsing history’ on your first tab, select the ‘delete’ button. Make certain most boxes are checked and and then hit ‘ok.’ With Firefox, you would go into tools and then ‘clear history.’ Click the tiny drop-down arrow and make sure all of the boxes are checked and modify your ‘Time range to clear’ to ‘everything.’ Should you use Google Chrome you simply click the wrench inside the top right hand corner. And then simply click on ‘options’. Under your ‘Under the hood’ section click on ‘clear browsing data’ once you have checked all of the boxes. It should be done once per month

4. Anti-Virus Program:

This will simply eliminate computer viruses and also continually scan and prevent computer viruses. As you would think, if you’ve got a computer virus it is going to slow all sorts of things down. In the event that you want a free version, then look into the only one I personally use, Microsoft Security Essentials. Run the scan each and every month as well as when prompted to.

5. Cable Modem Clear from any surroundings:

Is there something stacked on your cable modem right this moment? Well, if you’d like the cable modem performing her best; clear away any items that may be lying on your modem. You see the holes in your cable modem? Those help it to cool itself and if you cover it, your modem can’t take in air and can’t operate her best. If possible, provide it with four inches on every side other than the bottom. BONUS: Take a full breath and blow into the openings of the modem and observe the airborne dust come soaring out.

6. Unplug Your Cable Modem:

In the event you ever call your internet service provider (ISP) this is among the first things that they recommend to try initially. Disconnect all of the cords to your cable modem and wireless router, (which includes the power cords). Let it sit for 5 minutes then eureka, your internet performance will be recharged and ready to run much better than ever before. ANOTHER BONUS: This approach is also one of the first things I personally do any time my ‘internet is down’ to get it back up and operating properly again.

I hope everyone found this information just as useful as I have throughout the years. Once more, it is all for practically nothing in the event you don’t possess the best cable modem because that’ll be running your internet. However, it is a fantastic start! Now go and enjoy the speedier computer system and internet! Return to having fun with your online shopping, game playing, video watching, and everything else you love engaging in online in uninterrupted peace.

Thank you and cheers.

Wireless Internet Connection

Wireless Internet Connection

Do you have a wireless internet connection at home, or at the office? Isn’t it great? With a wireless connection you can move your laptop from room to room and still access the web and your email. But keep in mind that by its very nature, a wireless connection is slower than a wired connection. Having said that, if you’re concerned that your wireless internet speed isn’t what it should be, there are things you can try to speed it up. Your wireless router is the hub for your wireless internet experience. Your wireless signal broadcasts from it, and if it’s tucked away in a far corner, you’re connection quality can suffer. Keep in mind, too, that structural elements like wiring and plumbing can interfere with a wireless signal. A building’s structure, too, can be sufficient to affect wireless performance. Remember you can always check your wireless signal strength by hovering your mouse over the wireless internet indicator found in the system tray, near the time of day in the corner of your screen. Generally speaking, the stronger the signal, the better your internet connection. So physically moving the router to a more central location – one away from structural elements – may well help. If your driver for your wireless router is out of date, your performance may be enhanced by getting the latest version. There’s a reason vendors release new drivers. Often it’s to address performance or security issues. Either way, it’s a good idea to keep it up to date. Fortunately, Windows can automatically get the latest driver – with just a bit of help from you. Click on your Windows Start button, and then right-click on My Computer (or just Computer for your Vista and Win 7 users). In the pop-up menu, select Manage. In the resulting Computer Management screen, click on the plus sign next to Network adapters. Find the entry for your wireless adapter (hint: it will probably contain the word wireless or WLAN) and right-click on it. In the pop-up, select Update Driver Software. Windows will search the internet for the latest version. In case Windows isn’t able to query for the driver, you can always go to the manufacturer’s web site and download a setup program for the driver manually. Just like it’s important to keep current on the adapter’s driver version, the router’s software may well have updated since you installed it. And again, this update may well improve performance or security. The router’s firmware can be upgraded through the router interface. You access that by typing the router’s IP address into a web browser. Refer to your router’s user guide for further instructions. Other devices such as cell phones, cordless phones, microwaves or even house wiring can also interfere with the wireless signal. It’s for this reason that you have the ability to change the channel that the wireless router uses to broadcast its signal. Frequently, changing the channel on the router will bypass this interference. Again, you access this feature through the router’s web browser interface. And again, refer to your router’s user guide for this information. If your wireless internet overall is good, but there are areas in the building where the signal strength is weak – and you can’t move the router to a better location – a wireless range expander may be the solution you need. A wireless range expander will receive the wireless signal from the router and re-broadcast it. The advantage is, the re-broadcast signal will be as strong as the signal going out from the router. So by installing a wireless range expander in an area that has “fair” or “poor” signal strength, you can improve the strength in that area to “excellent”.

Docking your Laptop with a Wireless Connection

We have certainly been working on lopping off the wires that get our gadgets speaking to one another. The remote control takes care of one, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth take care of some, and the cell phone takes care of one important wire.

Somehow, it’s hard to get tired of the magic of going wireless, no matter how many times we get to experience it. Samsung has come up with a new wireless connection to lop off a few more wires now that happens to be particularly exciting.

The device looks no different from any particularly trendy looking 27” high-def computer monitor. It costs about $500 to buy.

So why would you pay that much money for a 27 inch monitor when you could probably get it for $350? You’d pay that because this is more than just a monitor. It’s a monitor with a wireless docking station built in.

Have you ever had the misfortune to use a laptop docking station? A docking station is a device that works with certain laptops; the docking station connects to a proper keyboard and mouse, a full-sized monitor, external hard drives and every peripheral you need for a proper desktop experience. Wireless Vs Wired Networking

If we look at how these two compare, then maybe we should start with a factor that is quite important to every one. Cost! In the case of wired networks, the costs of the equipments are much cheaper.

The reasons being that wired networks have been in the market for much longer; this has resulted in a large number of users. Equipment is also much cheaper and more rugged.

The equipment is manufactured such that it can withstand a lot of careless handling; there are a number of security features that come along with the product as a standard. But, this is not the case with wireless networks.

In the case of wireless networks, there is no cable running all over the work place; you can move around the whole office with ease. Read the rest of this entry →

What Type Of Connection Is Right For Me?

While there are many choices when it comes to connecting to the internet, we will be discussing only three here as these are the most affordable for personal consumer use in terms of higher speeds.

Just How Fast Can a Cable Internet Connection Go?

While not an exact science, a cable internet connection can reach up to 8.0 Mbps. Doesn’t seem very fast in terms of numbers, does it?

But, compare the above speed to the standard 1.5 Mbps average speed of a standard DSL connection, or the very low maximum speed of just 56 Kbps of dial up connections.

Still, most cable modems are able to deliver around 5.0 Mbps on average, to keep things fair. Read the rest of this entry →

Is Cable Internet Access Considered “High Speed” Or “Broadband”?

You may be wondering whether cable internet access is considered either a high speed connection or a broadband connection.

Well, the answer is simple. It is both actually. Many companies will use these terms to describe their internet connection services.

And both terms are correct. Cable internet connectivity supplies the end user, you, with higher speeds than those of a DSL, or Dial Up connection, while also being classified as a “broadband” type of connection. Read the rest of this entry →

What Is A Cable Internet Connection?

The term cable Internet access (or simply cable) refers to the delivery of Internet service over a cable television infrastructure.

What this means is that instead of using the standard telephone line to transfer data, a standard cable line is used in its place.

Not only does using a cable Internet connection free up your telephone line for incoming calls, but, it also provides much higher transfer rates compared with what is capable through a standard telephone line.

The reason why a cable connection can accomplish this is due to the type of lines used to deliver the internet content to your home computer.

While standard Dial Up connections use a small telephone line, which constricts the amount of usable bandwidth available at any one given time, a coaxial cable line has enough bandwidth available through just one line to deliver any of your cable television channels and your internet content.
