If you’re a gamer, it’s safe to say that next to the processor in your computer, the graphics card is the most heavily-pounded component in your system.

The way each new generation of videogame title uses up computer graphics power these days, you can never have enough.

The graphics card, a separate processor much like your main processor Intel or AMD processor, is the part of your computer that draws and renders all the complex imagery that your game involves.

If you want truly realistic imagery in your videogame, you’d better be prepared to equip you computer accordingly.

Sometimes, even if you buy the most powerful graphics card on the market, it still won’t be enough. You need something more. Something like dual video cards of the same kind of the same computer.

There are basically two kinds of standards for those who wish to use dual video cards their system. You can either go with the Nvidia standard that they call SLI or you could go with the AMD standard that they call AMD CrossFireX.

Typically, the AMD standard is the one that’s the most flexible. Go with the SLI standard, and you absolutely have to buy two identical expensive cards.

With the AMD standard though, if you have two compatible cards, one powerful and the other less so, you could still have them add up.

If you’re kind of on a budget and you’d just like to be able to use a less powerful card as well, you really should choose AMD.

AMD offers another advantage, as well. You can actually get the onboard graphics, as modest as it might be, to pitch in. Before you can go with dual video cards, whichever company you want to side with, you need to make sure that your motherboard is capable of a setup like this.

Go with AMD, and you will be able to get CrossfireX performance out of practically any motherboard that has two PCI Express slots.

With SLI though, you’ll need a motherboard that has SLI certification. You can expect such certification on any motherboard with Nvidia chipsets and motherboards based on Intel’s X58 or P55 chipsets.

However, if you’re going to be taking the plunge with dual video cards, you do want to make sure that the specific games that you have been mind to play on a setup like this, do benefit from dual video cards. Not every game is programmed in such a way that it can take advantage of this much power.

The electronic product from nVidia is a masterpiece which has become an important part of electronic product development world. One of the nVidia product ever released to the public is the G80 series.

G80 series is a version of the graphics card products manufactured by Nvidia. G80 series graphics cards provide the quality is quite good and many users are satisfied with the quality given by the product.

NVIDIA also has released a brand new product they have the name of the DirectX 10 ready 8800. The product is a first class product that has an expensive price.

Can we guess that the product is a product used to meet the demands of upper-class users? But in reality, the public see that the DirectX 10 ready-8800 product is a product of Overkill.

The weakness of the 8800 series is the lack of motivating factors of the tools that can provide support for 8800 series performance. Series GeForce 8800 GTS 320 is a memory product that uses nVidia’s middle class.

Memory speed of the GeForce 8800 GTS 320 of 800 Mhz. If we look, we can see that there is a decline in memory capacity between the old versions with the version of the GeForce 8800 GTS 320.

Regarding the decline in memory capacity, of course there is the effect obtained. The effect obtained due to memory loss that is the performance graphics card. Currently, some computer experts have examined the effect of decreasing the amount of memory on the graphics card.

But no one who can confirm this effect. It’s just that the researcher can be sure there is a problem in the use of the GeForce 8800 GTS 320 on the screen with high resolution.

Currently the price of the GeForce 8800 GTS 320 is about 220 dollars. With that price, the GeForce 8800 GTS 320 will be a product that can compete in the market.

I get asked all the time, “What video card should I buy?”, and I always have to answer, “What are you using your PC for?”.

Depending on whether your needs are for business, watching movies, or for extreme gaming can change the answer greatly.

For most of us common users, we are most interested in having great speed while watching our movies, and videos, with a card that can do a little gaming.

If you are a hardcore gamer, then you know you need to match your games to your video card. Often many games only support certain video chipsets.

So, if you have a favorite game, make sure you buy your video card based upon their recommended chipset.

For us home users who love to watch our TV, Videos, and Movies on our PC, we will want a card to do Hi-Def, and possibly Blu-Ray decoding.

My current favorite is ATI’s HD4670 chipset. These cards are fantastic for watching all kinds of movie formats, whether streaming, HD-DVD, or Blu-ray. You can find cards with the HD4670 from manufacturers like Diamond, Sapphire, and Asus.

If you are one of the hardcore gamers, I’m sure you’re well aware of the constant battle between Nvidia and ATI for being the speed champion.

I’ve always been happy with Nvidia for gaming. If you want to be on the cutting edge, be prepared to shell out $500 for a great gaming card from either Nvidia or ATI. For most games, you can get buy with slightly older chipsets, and keep your price down around $100.

As you have a wide variety of video card manufacturers nowadays, choosing a video card can make you go dizzy.

It is essential that you buy a video card that is compatible to your computer’s hardware configuration and the connections available for the video card, otherwise it will all go waste.

Finding the right Video Card

Usually computers have PCI, AGP and ISA type connections. AGP (Advanced Graphics Port) is currently the standard for the latest motherboards.

AGP is directly connected to the computer memory, so it can store 3-D elements in the computer’s memory rather than using the video memory.

The PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) is one of the most frequently used Buses in computers today.

You should also consider the amount of memory the video card you choose has. The higher this memory, the better is the resolution that you get. You should also consider aspects like video acceleration.

This is especially important if you want to use you computer for the latest gaming. The options you have are OpenGL, 3DFX GLIDE, or Direct3D Software API. You can use 3DFX GLIDE only on a card developed by 3DFX.

After you have researched various possibilities, you can go on and purchase your new video card. However you should be careful to buy it from a trustworthy vendor.

Installing your new Video Card

While installing the new video card, make sure that you have a site available for connecting it, or you can remove the previous card before connecting the new one.

If the PC already has on-board video, you should find out if any issue will arise if you install a new video card on it.

Next you should get the drivers for your video card ready. Make sure this is the latest one. If you don’t have it, you can very well download it from the internet. But see that it is free from malware.

Next you should uninstall the driver for your old video card. You can do this by going to the uninstall option through your Start Menu.

There is something called Device Manager where you can remove your current driver. Once you have done that, you can shut down the computer.

You should now take out the monitor cable from your video card and remove the card from its slot. You can then insert your new video card and screw it in position. Restart the system and give the exact location of the driver to your OS.

Your OS will automatically install the new drivers and request you for a system restart. Once you restart, you will find that the graphics settings have changed a bit.

All you have to do is adjust the resolution accordingly and your new video card is ready for action.

The most important part here is buying the right brand of Video card and getting it from a genuine seller who can give proper warranty.

If you have accomplished this, the other aspects like the installation, setup etc is just child’s play.

PCI-Express’ (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) real strength is having a huge capacity for future expansion in data bandwidth whereas AGP has reached the limits of the technology.

PCI-Express 16x is a type of video card and an advancement in the video card technology. Its connector has 164 pins, is 89 mm long and is intended to be used on the graphics port.

But it can only be used with motherboards that have PCI-Express slots. In fact, PCI-Express 16x slots are already available in place of the AGP graphics card slot on some motherboards. AGP may be starting to die rapidly as PCI express grows in popularity.

PCI-Express 16x connection is faster than AGP 8x but this connection is between the system and the video card.

This makes your computer run faster when you are running other applications. There may not be a huge difference between AGP and PCI-Express when it comes to chipsets.

If you have a video card that has a chipset for the PCI-Express and a bridge chipset for the AGP slot, then basically, PCI-Express will be faster.

This is because you don’t have to use the bridge chipset and you can have better bandwidth and high resolution when you are on an intense gaming situation.

Video cards are very important for gamers. If you opt to use your computer for intensive graphics like hard-core gaming, video editing and watching DVD movies, you can get a good video card such as the PCI-Express 16x.

If you are still happy with the AGP graphics performance, it is better to upgrade to PCI-Express 16x video card if you are ready to upgrade the processor and other computer components.

Video card is a major hardware component used in computers for generating and transferring images to the computer display.

They are most commonly known as graphics card. The principle of working of video cards is very well similar to that of sound card and various other peripheral devices used in computers.

Most commonly used video cards are inserted as separate expansion cards into the motherboard of the computer.

There are added functionalities like video capturing, MPEG decoding etc, provided by video cards. Video cards are not only used for video games, though there is such a misconception prevailing among users.

The range of capabilities provided by video cards is more than this general use. They are specialized to handle video outputs and can improve the display of the computer monitor.

Graphic designers and animators find great uses for video cards. They use these cards to get optimum displays for their profession and for faster rendering of signals to efficiently add power to their work.

The modern video cards are mounted on a PCB with all related components. The components include a graphics processing unit for floating point calculations.

These are used as the basics of 3d graphics functions. Video bios are another major component of video cards and they contain the programs to control the operations of the card as a whole.

The integrated video cards on motherboards use the memory of the computer. In fact the computer memory becomes the video memory in such computers.

There are connection systems that connect the video card and the computer display. The connection systems can be analog based or digital based.

These connection systems connect video cards with DVD players, recorders and televisions. Those which are not integrated on the motherboard have a separate memory referred to as video memory or video RAM.

There are many factors that are decisive in picking the right PCI Graphics Card. On one hand, you have video output incorporated into the motherboard itself, eliminating the need for a separate graphics card entirely.

On the other hand you have companies trying to persuade you to use multiple cards on the same PC.

Now when the discussion comes to purchasing PCI Graphics Card, the most important aspect is the purpose of usage.

Decisive factors

The graphic card, also called a video card, is primarily responsible for handling the calculations necessary to determine where and when pixels will fire and in what color, which is critical in any high end graphics application like gaming.

So the next question would obviously be that with so many different options out there, how do you choose the right card for you?

The big shots in the market

There are two major players in the chipset market; ATI and NVIDIA and the Graphics card manufacturers build cards around these chipsets. In generic terms, most motherboards will accept cards built around either chipset.

Presently NVIDIA is the dominant chipset producer. With the release of their 8800 series they have taken a firm grip on the lead.

The down side is that you got to shell out BIG BUCKS for that performance! However at the mid-range prices, both offer comparable models.

What defines your buying decision is, inevitably, what you intend to do with your computer.

Both and ATI and NVIDIA have a range of products that cater for the modest user right through to the money-no-object kind. They don’t label them in a consistent way, though, so let’s quickly work out what’s what.

ATI uses SE to denote its cheaper cards, and SE boards have half of the memory bandwidth as a compromise, with the price lower as a result. The Pro is next up the line, followed by the XL, the XT and the XT PE at the top.

Each varies by playing with the number of available pixel pipelines, the graphics core speed and the memory core speed, for instance. So an X800 SE would be a less capable board than an X800 pro or X800 XT.

Recently, the firm has launched the GT and GTO. An X800GT is a slightly budget variant of the X800, with the odd compromise but it has higher memory frequency as well. The X800GTO lies in the midst of an X800 and X800 Pro.

What are the best options?

Considering the options at the low cost end for NVIDIA, there’s Turbo Cache, LE is a slightly stripped down version of a card for cutting down the price, and the same applies to XT, although an NVIDIA XT will perform better than an NVIDIA LE.

NVIDIA XT has slightly compromised performance, however NVIDIA GT, has incorporates the better performing GDDR3 memory, which helps in boosting up the performance.

An Ultra version heads towards the top end, while the Ultra Extreme and the GTX are highest performing variants.

For most ATI users, the X300 is competent and boards based upon it come in at under $80.

X550 and X700s are available around the $100 mark, and are perfectly fine for those who don’t demand high 3D performance.

The X700 appears around the $150 mark and so does the X1300Pro. These are soundly mid-range graphics boards.

At around $225, X800 variants start to appear, and this is where you should be interested as a ATI-favoring gamer. The X800 XL’s are just below the $400 mark.

The high end extreme performers:

The best high-end performer tag keeps shifting from company to company, with ATI having recently been the champions for a couple of years, and NVIDIA’s 7800GTX currently the top-end board of choice.

ATI’s top boards, the X1800XL start from approx $500, with the premium X1800 XT selling for $550+.

You must be willing to shell out at least $800 for a fully specked variant of it.

Moving down the line, a gaming 7800GT board will cost you just under $600, while heading towards the mid-range is the 6800GT bearing a price tag of just under $400, which would suffice for gaming as well! The 6600GT is a solid performer for around $250.

The windows Microsoft vista is designated two levels of compatibility for the Windows Vista release. These two levels pass on to hardware that will hold up Windows Vista to changeable degrees.

These levels are chosen Windows Vista Capable and Windows Vista Premium.

Windows Vista Capable Computer Requirement

The Windows Vista operating system personal computer should be capable, with the means that your present hardware meets the complete bare minimum necessities to install and sprint Windows Vista.

A modern computer processor is required at least having a speed of 800MHz.
The computer should have 512 mega bytes of system memory.
A graphics processor, which is DirectX 9 capable, with a bare minimum of about 64mb of RAM is also required.

The Windows Vista Premium Ready Personal computer

A Windows Vista Premium set up personal computer, means your hardware meets the lowest amount necessities to use the majority additional features of Windows Vista that enhances the client experience.

In other language, the superior least necessities will perk up the system show and improve higher media like these Windows Aero.

These are the suggested lowest amount of necessities.

The minimum of 1 GHz 32-bit or the 64-bit (x64) processor is required.
One giga byte of system memory is the minimum requirement.
The computer Support have the support of the DirectX 9 graphics with a fresh WDDM driver, and also 128 MB of graphics memory, the Pixel Shader 2.0 and also 32 bits per pixel.
You should have 40 GB of hard drive at least with minimum of 15 GB free spaces.
The DVD-ROM Drive is necessary.
The Audio output capability is essential.
The Internet access capability is also required.

Summary

The major dissimilarity between Windows Vista and Windows XP are the system memory and video necessities. The Windows XP will scuttle well with 128 MB video card and one GB of system RAM. Ironically, that should be considered the least amount to set up Windows Vista operating system on your computer.
