What is A Computer Software – A Brief Lesson
Computer software is the programs and applications that you use on your computer. “Hardware” is the actual computer and parts themselves. Microchips, motherboards, video cards, modems, hard drives, etc; are all examples of hardware.
Computer software is actually what you are using right now. Windows XP or Vista or if you use a Mac; Macintosh’s OS X.
These are ‘operating systems‘ that run on computers and allow you to have control over what you are doing, easily without knowing computer code.
Other software includes (but is not limited too) Internet Explorer, iTunes, Games, Video Players, Graphics Programs, Photo shop, Paint, etc. Bill Gates of Microsoft is in the ‘computer software’ business.
He does not make computers…his company writes code for software. Microsoft Windows, Office, Outlook Express, Word, Microsoft Works, and on and on. All thy have to do, is write code!
So when you are looking for a program for you computer (most likely something that will help you solve a problem or do something faster and easier), you are shopping for computer software.
Many computer softwares also help businesses organize their critical information in the best most effective way possible.
Every time a waiter takes your order at a restaurant and punches it in on a computer, or a tire mechanic types in information about your car, they are using software programs that were programmed and coded by developers.
This should give you a pretty good idea about what is computer software. It’s amazing how microchips and wires can actually be manipulated in a way where you can see pictures and awesome looking programs on a screen…AND interact with it! All from just wires and chips.
Technology is wonderful and the future is bringing us closer to more helpful and innovative computer applications.
